Rather than using a coil (large), a needle (primitive), or a Hall sensor (poor sensitivity) we use the Lorentz Force to deflect a stream of electrons traveling in a micro vacuum chamber

Electrons are emitted similarly to a plasma display and accelerated using static electric fields inside a micro vacuum chamber.
